A contour generator is a set of points on a generating object surface that projects to an occluding contour in an image. A special case of a contour generator is an extremal boundary of an object, this is a boundary along which a surface turns smoothly away from the viewer. At extremal boundaries the surface normal is perpendicular to both the line of sight and the occluding contour projected into the image.
