A method of object shape representation in which an object is represented as a function on the unit sphere, by mapping points on the object surface to the point on the unit sphere with corresponding normal direction. The value of the function on the unit sphere is the sum (integral for a planar surface) of the absolute values of the inverse of the Gaussian curvatures of the corresponding surface points. The integral of the function over the unit sphere is the object's surface area. The representation rotates in correspondence with the object and for convex objects is unique (disregarding translation).
