Segmentation attempts to identify important features in an image, such as lines or regions of a uniform colour. In low-level segmentation, pixels are grouped together using techniques like thresholding or (for edges) Convolution. In high-level segmentation, expectations from models are used to guide the use of such low-level feature detectors. See also Model-based Vision.
