Recovering object surface information can be achieved in a number of ways. Stereopsis will yield explicit surface information only at those points where a direct correspondence is achievable. Analysis of motion or Optical Flow and deforming it to fit the available constraints it is possible to obtain an approximation to the object surface. By varying the resolution to which the thin plate is deformed it is possible to form a hierarchy of surface descriptions. At the lowest level these include texture descriptions while at higher levels coarser shape information is represented.
